The big easy

We arrived to Wal Mart, New Orleans early in the morning to park our home. The Wal Mart is next to a police station so it was a safe place. From there we took a cab to the French Quarter (10min) - the old touristic area of the city.
We spent the whole day in the french quarter of New Orleans. Everything we heard about the place came true and we liked it a lot! We started off with the local doughnut called "beignet" in famous Cafe du Monde and a walk on the moonwalk along the Mississippi.

The cathedral as seen from the moon walk
The small streets and old houses with green balconies are very beautiful, people play music and street preformers in every corner. The locals are very friendly and would indulge in conversation easily. In some cases it was actually impossible to stop them.

Apart from music, they have a very developed voodoo culture and the famous Mardi Gras (fat Tuesday)- a carnival style parade that happens every year in February (same as in Brazil).

A visit to the insectarium (or like Adi says - bug zoo) features a lot of insects of course, that you can even try out.
Delicious warms for example

We strolled the streets farther deeper in the neighborhood and arrived to places children shouldn't be in.
Just before catching a cab back home, we had another round of beignets, this time we were tired and silly. Maybe we inhaled too much sugar powder(-:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHAHAR!!!

I was looking at your flagcounter and found the map of the Netherlands. Just for your curiosity: we lived close to Maastricht before moving to Brazil and on our homeleaves we mostly stay with my mom close to Eindhoven. Hedzer`s parents live all the way up north close to Leeuwarden. All the way is only 350 km north of Maastricht:-)
Enjoy your worldtournee, you`re mostly welcome in your 4th continent! Abracos, Augusta

No one was brave enough to try the worms. Thanks for the geography lesson. Of course we would be happy to see it for real with you one day soon.
Feliz natal e ano novo!
